"Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God,
be honour and glory for ever and ever.  Amen."
I Timothy 1:17.

"BEHOLD,  THY  KING"

THE WORD OF THE LORD came unto Nathan, saying . . . Now therefore, so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:
And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.
Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,
And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies.  Also the Lord telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
He shall build an house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee:  thy throne shall be established for ever.
According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

-- 2 Samuel 7.4, 8-13, 16.17.

GIVE THE KING thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the King's son.
He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.
The mountains shall bring peace to the people and the little hills, by righteousness.
He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.
He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass:  as showers that water the earth.
In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.
He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.
The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents:  the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
Yes, all kings shall fall down before him:  all nations shall serve him.
For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth, the poor also, and him that hath no helper.
He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.
He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence and precious shall their blood be in his sight.
And he shall live, and to him shall be given the gold of Sheba:  prayer also shall be made for him continually, and daily shall he be praised.
There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains, the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon:  and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
His name shall endure for ever:  his name shall be continued as long as the sun:  and men shall be blessed in him:  all nations shall call him blessed.
Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.
And blessed be his glorious name for ever:  and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.
The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

-- Psalm 72

I HAVE MADE A COVENANT with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.
My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
    If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
    If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
Then will I visit their transgressions with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.  Thus saith the Lord.

-- Psalm 89.3, 4, 28-36.

THE LORD HIMSELF shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:  and the government shall be upon his shoulders:  and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.  The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
There shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel, and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord:
And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord:  and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth:  and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

-- Isaiah 7.14; 9.6, 7; 11.1-5.

BEHOLD THE DAYS COME, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUENESS.

-- Jeremiah 23.5, 6.

BUT THOU, BETHLEHEM Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

-- Micah 5.2.

THE ANGEL GABRIEL, was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee:  blessed art thou among women.
And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary:  for thou hast found favour with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest:  and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the shadow of the Highest shall overshadow thee:  therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.  And the angel departed from her.

-- Luke 1.26-35, 38.

NOW THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST was on this wise:  When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife:  for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:  for he shall save his people from their sins.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son:  and he called his name JESUS.

-- Matthew 1.18-25.

AND IT CAME TO PASS in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

-- Luke 2.1-7.

NOW WHEN JESUS WAS BORN in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews?  for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea:  for thus it is written by the prophet,
And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda:  for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again; that I may come and worship him also.
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him:  and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

-- Matthew 2.1-12.

AND JESUS INCEASED in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

-- Luke 2.52.

AND WHEN THEW DREW NIGH unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,
Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her:  loose them, and bring them unto me.
And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David:  Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased.

-- Mark 14.55; 15.1-3, 6-15.

YE MEN OF ISRAEL, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death:  because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
    Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
For David is not ascended into the heavens:  but he saith himself.  The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand.
Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

-- Acts 2.22-36.

    I GIVE THEE CHARGE in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords.

-- I Timothy 6.13-15.

AND I SAW HEAVEN OPENED, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written that no man knew, but he himself.
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood:  and his name is called The Word of God.
And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations:  and he shall rule them with a rod of iron:  and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

-- Revelation 19.11-16.

AND I JOHN SAW the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light:  and they shall reign for ever and ever.

-- Revelation 21.2; 22.3-5.

I JESUS HAVE sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches.  I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.  And let him that heareth say, Come.  And let him that is athirst come.  And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly.  Amen.  Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.  Amen.

-- Revelation 22.16-17; 20-21.

BRINGING  BACK  THE  KING

Why say ye not a word
Of bringing back the King?
Why speak ye not of Jesus and His reign?
Why tell ye of His Kingdom,
And of its glories sing,
But nothing of His coming back again?

Dost thou not want to look
Upon His loving face?
Dost thou not want to see Him glorified?
Would'st thou not hear His welcome,
And in that very place,
Where years ago we saw Him crucified?

O Hark!  creation's groans,
How can they be assuaged?
How can our bodies know redemptive joy?
How can the war be ended
In which we are engaged,
Until He comes the lawless to destroy?

Come quickly, blessed Lord,
Our hearts a welcome hold!
We long to see creation's second birth;
The promise of Thy coming
To some is growing cold,
O hasten Thy returning back to earth.

-- James M. Gray

I  BELONG  TO  THE  KING

I belong to the King,
I'm a child of His love,
I shall dwell in His palace so fair;
For He tells of its bliss
In yon heaven above,
And His children in splendor shall share.

I belong to the King,
And He loves me I know,
For His mercy and kindness, so free
Are unceasingly mine,
Wheresoever I go,
And my refuge unfailing is He.

I belong to the King,
And His promise is sure,
That we all shall be gathered at last
In His kingdom above,
By life's waters so pure,
When this life with its trials is past.

IT  MUST  HAVE  SEEMED  SO  STRANGE

It must have seemed so strange to Him
To lay His glory down;
For long before the worlds were made
His head had worn a crown.

The morning stars had sung for Him,
Till all the heavenly space
Was filled with ringing praises of
His majesty and grace.

His throne, the throne of the Most High,
With gold and gems was bright;
There thronging angels worshipped Him
And served Him day and night.

And now upon this earth, whose first
Foundations He had laid,
His weary feet were cut and bruised
By stones which He had made.

The sun which He had hung on high
Beat down upon His head.
He must have watched the stars at night,
The sunsets glowing red,

Where He had walked once on a time
In glory never dreamed,
And then, remembering, how strange,
How strange earth must have seemed!

And it will seem as strange to us,
Yet sweet beyond compare,
To quit earth's dusty roads and walk
With Him in glory there!

JESUS'  BIRTHDAY

Did you ever have a birthday
And all the folks you knew
Just gave each other presents --
But they never thought of you?

That is what we do to Jesus,
The dearest Friend we know!
Now if we really love Him,
Don't you think it ought to show?

So then, as we spend this Christmas,
Let's turn our thoughts away
From other things to Jesus
'Cause it is His special day.

Though we cannot bow beside Him
As shepherds long ago,
Yet, if we really love him,
Don't you think it ought to show?
