A  CHILD  IS  BORN  --  A  SON  IS  GIVEN
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even forever.  The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this."   --  Isaiah 9:6-7.

THE ANGEL, GABRIEL, was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.  And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou who art highly favored, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women.  And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered in her mind what manner of greeting this should be.  And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary; for thou hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father, David.  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?  And the angel answered, and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee; therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.  And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.  And the angel departed from her.  (Luke 1:26-35, 38)

NOW THE BIRTH of Jesus Christ was in this way:  When, as his mother, Mary, was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.  Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privately.  But while he thought on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared, unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary, thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS; for he shall save his people from their sins.

Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which, being interpreted, is God with us.

Then Joseph, being raised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife, and knew her not till she had brought forth her first-born son; and he called his name JESUS.  (Matthew 1:18-25)

AND IT CAME TO PASS, in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be registered.  (And this registration was first made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.)  And all went to be registered, everyone into his own city.  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the house and lineage of David), to be registered with Mary, his espoused wife, being great with child.  And so it was that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.  And she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And, lo, an angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were very much afraid.  And the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you:  Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.  And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.  And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.  And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.  But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.  And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, who was so named by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.  And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord), and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.

And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.  And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.  And he came by the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child, Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; for mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people, Israel.  And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of him.  And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary, his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against (yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher; she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; and she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, who departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.  And she, coming in that instant, gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.  (Luke 2:1-38)

NOW WHEN JESUS was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod, the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews?  For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.  When Herod, the king, had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.  And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where the Christ should be born.  And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea; for thus it is written by the prophet, And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the princes of Judah; for out of thee shall come a Governor that shall rule my people, Israel.  Then Herod, when he had privately called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.  And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.  When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.  When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him; and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts:  gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.  And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.  (Matthew 2:1-12)

AND THE CHILD GREW, and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him.  And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. (Luke 2:40,52)

FOR GOD SO LOVED the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

IN THE BEGINNING was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness overcame it not.

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.  He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on his name; who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

John bore witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spoke, He that cometh after me is preferred before me; for he was before me.  And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.  No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world.  This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is preferred before me; for he was before me.  And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.  And John bore witness, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.  And I knew him not; but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth with the Holy Spirit.  And I saw, and bore witness that this is the Son of God.  (John 1:1-5, 9-18, 29-34)

AS MOSES LIFTED UP the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  (John 3:14-15, 17-18)

JESUS ANSWERED THEM, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.  Therefore, the Jews sought . . . to kill him, because he . . . said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.  Then answered Jesus, and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do; for whatever things he doeth, these also doeth the Son in the same manner.  For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that he himself doeth; and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.  For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and giveth them life, even so the Son giveth life to whom he will.  For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son; that all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father.  He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father, who hath sent him.  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but is passed from death unto life.  Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live.  For as the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; and hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man,  Marvel not at this; for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth:  they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.  (John 5:17-29)

WHILE HE YET SPOKE, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them; and, behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.  (Matthew 17:5)

THEN SAID THEY unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?  Jesus answered, and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.  (John 6:28, 29)

THEN CAME THE JEWS round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt?  If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.  Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not; the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.  But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.  I and my Father are one.  Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.  Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shown you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?  The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

Jesus answered them, is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?  If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken, say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?  If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.  But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.  Therefore, they sought again to take him; but he escaped out of their hand.  (John 10:24-39)

A LITTLE WHILE, (said Jesus,) and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.  Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us . . . ?  Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of what I said . . . ?  Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.  (John 16:16-17, 19-20)

FROM THAT TIME forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples, how he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.  (Matthew 16:21)

I CAME FORTH from the Father, and am come into the world; again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.  (John 16:28)

AND WHEN THEY had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots for them, what every man should take.  And it was the third hour; and they crucified him.  And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.  And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land unto the ninth hour.  And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?  which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?  And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the spirit.  And the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom.  And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the spirit, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.  (Mark 15:24-26, 33-34, 37-39)

IN THE END of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher.  And, behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.  And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not; for I know that ye seek Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; for he is risen, as he said.  (Matthew 28:1-2, 5-6)

FOR CHRIST ALSO hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.  (I Peter 3:18-22)

IF WE RECEIVE the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.  He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself; he that believeth not God hath made him a liar, because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life.  (I John 5:9-13)
